William (Bill) Saunders joined A.G. Becker in 1949. He was born in Seattle, WA about 1910 and worked briefly before college at Blyth & Co. in 1929. He received an A.B. in 1933 from the University of Washington. He became the manager of a small brokerage office in Aberdeen, and then worked on his own until joining the Navy in 1942, serving in the Supply Corps for three years and being discharged as a Lt. Commander. After the war, he resumed working for himself in investment activities and then received an MBA from Northwestern. He joined Becker in 1949, was elected a Vice President, became a stockholder, and completed a number of major mergers and acquisitions and public offerings. Bill headed Chicago corporate finance department for a short time in 1961. He resigned from Becker in 1963 to move to the West Coast and to reform his own investment firm.
