William (Bill) Mabie was born in 1902. He graduated from the University of Chicago in 1924 and within a week joined Becker for a life long association. Bill was in the Chicago sales force for most of his career, steadily building an investment clientele and becoming a leading producer on a firm wide basis. Bill became a partner/shareholder in 1949, a Vice President in 1951 and a Director in 1959. He was elected President in 1961. He was active in the local securities industry associations and civic affairs and helped originate and maintain some of the firm’s important corporate relationships. Bill retired at the end of 1967 and passed away in 1984.

Obituary:
Chicago Tribune, July 17, 1984. William Mabie, 82, a Winnetka resident, died Monday in the Evanston Hospital. He joined the investment banking firm A.G. Becker & Co., Inc. in 1922 as a trainee immediately after graduating from the University of Chicago. He became a Vice President in 1951 and a director in 1959, and then was elected President and CEO in 1961. Mr. Mabie was born in Sioux City, Iowa. An endowed chair has been established in his name at the University of Chicago’s Brain Research Institute. He is survived by his wife, Florence; two sons; a daughter; eleven grandchildren; a great grandchild; and a sister.
