As of 7/16/1975. Stuart (Stu) Porter, Chicago, is Vice President and Director of Investment Research activities for Becker Securities Corporation. He joined the firm in 1969, having previously been an instructor at the University of Illinois. Stu received a B.S.E. degree from the University of Michigan (1960) and an M.B.A. degree from the University of Chicago (1967). Just before joining Becker, Stu served in the Air National Guard in France at the time of the Berlin crisis.

From the time he joined the firm, Stu was a central figure in the development and extension of the firm’s funds evaluation services. Being diagnosed with terminal prostrate cancer in 2002, Stu made it a life’s purpose to help those stricken by the disease, to educate about it, and to battle its development. In 1977, Stu joined Weiss, Peck & Greer for a brief period, after which he formed SPC Capital, a private equity fund of funds.

Obituary:
Stuart Williams Porter, 73, of Barrington IL, and Palm Desert, CA, died on May 27, 2010, after a long fight against prostate cancer. He was survived by his widow, Myrna; two sons; five grandchildren, his parents; and a brother.
