Robert M. (Bob) Arias was born in New York City in 1938, raised in Scarsdale where he graduated from high school, graduated from Yale University in 1959, and received an MBA from New York University in 1963. He became a member (the youngest recorded) of the NYSE at age 21, representing White Weld as well as S.R. Arias Inc., while serving in the U.S. Air Force Reserve. In 1966, when S.R.Arias merged with A.G. Becker, Bob became Becker’s first NYSE floor broker employee, in time directing a staff of brokers, and then became a Specialist. In 1976, Bob joined Ernst and Co. where he worked until his retirement in 2000. Bob’s life was devoted to his family, his work with a number of non-profit organizations, and philanthropy. His NFP connections included the Buttonwood Foundation, the Wurzweiler School of Social Work, and the Catherine and Henry Gaisman Foundation. Robert and his wife Louise established endowment funds at Yale and Bucknell. Bob loved and was an expert in opera, was a member of various clubs, and an enthusiastic traveller, all before his death in 2009, three days before his 71st birthday.
