Lester Roth was born in 1882. Information about his education and background are not known but apparently he was an economist and a lawyer. He joined Becker in 1924. Roth was possibly hired by A.G. Becker himself to provide greater management to the firm’s growing back office, accounting, and treasury needs. In the 1930s, Roth was apparently active with Bob Schaffner in the firm’s direct investment activities and the oversight of Lawbeck and Manhattan-Dearborn, Becker companies launched in the 1920s. Roth was a member of the American Economic Association, the Academy of Politial Science, the Chicago Bar Association, and the Midday Club. He became executive vice-president at some point and was a partner/shareholder in the 1947 reorganization until his death in 1952 at the age of 70.
