John Stodder joined the Chicago corporate finance department in 1950 immediately after graduating with an MBA from the Harvard Business School. Prior thereto, he had received an AB from Holy Cross in 1944, and then became an officer in the U.S. Navy serving on a destroyer. He was a salesman for a small securities firm in Chicago before going to Harvard. John was quite successful at new business developoment creating relationships and financing for such companies as Jostens and Bergstrom Paper. among others. He became a Vice President in 1958. He resigned in 1961 to join Smith, Barney in NY.

Daily Breeze/Legacy Com, April 21, 2009. John W. Stodder, retired investment banker and longtime resident of Palos Verdes Estates, CA, died at home on April 21, 2009 of natural causes. Stodder who was 86, served as an intermediary, negotiator, and counselor to business owners seeking a business combination of some form. He was a sole proprietor for 30 years. Prior thereto he worked in various organizations including Smith Barney & Co. in New York and A.G. Becker in Chicago. He was Vice Chairman of Jostens for many years. He was survived by his wife Gay; a brother, five sons; and eight grandchildren.
